Red light therapy is a treatment that’s rapidly growing in popularity due to its numerous and varied benefits, both health and cosmetic, and its minimal side effects. It’s a non-invasive treatment that involves exposing a body part or, in our case, the whole body to light in the 600-1100 nanometer range.
These light wavelengths penetrate the skin, reaching muscle and connective tissue, where they stimulate the mitochondria found in cells to produce ATP, a molecule that powers a range of biological processes. Physical effects include reducing the symptoms of inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, increased rate of wound and bruise healing, reduction in musculoskeletal pain, and a reduction of skin wrinkling through increased collagen production.
Much like sauna use, there are also mental benefits. These include an improvement in sleep quality, reduced anxiety and improved mental functioning.
