Traditional Sauna

Using stones to heat a small space dates back 10,000 years, and our traditional sauna works on the same principles. The stones in our heater absorb heat and release it back at a consistent rate, keeping the temperature high over time, and allow for water to be added to produce löyly, a burst of steam that produces a wave of heat and humidity.

When we say the sauna is good for you, we’re not lying. Some benefits are obvious, such as the rested and relaxed feeling after a session or a potential reduction of pain from sports or injuries, but there are some less visible ones too. Sauna usage, even for as little as 15 minutes per session, can improve cardiovascular health, respiratory health and increase your lifespan.

Infrared Sauna

Our infrared sauna is a more modern offering. While the traditional sauna heats the air around you, the infrared sauna heats you directly using infrared light. It’s a different sensation that many prefer as the air stays cooler and the heat is gentler, allowing for longer sessions. Think being outside on a hot sunny day.

The health benefits of the infrared sauna are similar to the ones found with the traditional sauna, however there are some notable differences. For instance, infrared light can penetrate deeper into body tissue than traditional convective heat. This means that for those using the sauna to manage joint or muscle pain the infrared sauna is an excellent option. Infrared light also has cosmetic effects, increasing collagen and elastin production, making it a great option to combine with red light therapy.

Cold Plunge

Traditionally those in the Nordic or Slavic countries would jump into a lake or a hole drilled in ice after sauna usage, but as we’re in Stoke Newington we’ll have to make do with two state-of-the-art cold plunge pools filled with UV-sanitized, filtered water.

Our pools are kept at a chilly 15 Celsius and a frosty 10. Seasoned ice bath veterans may be able to stay in for minutes, but if you’re a newcomer even a few seconds is a good effort. The cold complements the heat, producing a “charged up” feeling while stimulating metabolism and the immune system.
